Regresa EL CIMARRON

Resulta gran espectáculo el mimo-drama "Por Cimarrón"
La Habana, 19 nov "Por Cimarrón", mimo-drama basado en una emblemática novela testimonio de Miguel Barnet, y estrenado en el Teatro Mella este jueves, resulta un gran espectáculo, a la altura de la obra que lo inspira.





Así "Biografía de un Cimarrón", a 30 años de una primera versión escénica por Teatro de Pantomima de Cuba, en el Parque Lenin, tiene esta segunda renovada y con un elenco de jóvenes figuras de Mimo Teatro, la Compañía de Danzas Tradicionales J.J. y el Grupo Yagruma compuesto por mimos sordos.







Protagonistas de la puesta de hace tres décadas como Ramón Díaz, Johannes García, Carlos Sánchez, Nancy Rodríguez, Ana Belkis Zamora y Luís Crespo, insuflaron aquella energía pionera en las nuevas generaciones de intérpretes para lograr un espectáculo dinámico, balanceado y preciso de principio a fin.



La pieza asume ese espíritu rebelde y libertario, ese cimarronaje del cual Esteban Montejo dio cumplido testimonio en “Biografía de un Cimarrón” y que ha pasado a ser uno de los más genuinos signos de identidad del pueblo cubano, que no se conforma con un destino fijado desde afuera y opone a ello esa cultura de resistencia que históricamente la distingue.
Excelente estuvo la cantante Daisy Brau y el coro y la percusión de la Compañía JJ, quienes con su participación en vivo dieron ese toque mágico del arte eficaz y espontáneo.



También resulta destacable el funcional y vistoso vestuario diseñado por MEXI-SON y la hermosa escenografía que enmarcó con tino la presentación.


Palmas para Ramón Díaz, quien tuvo a su cargo la adaptación y la dirección de esta puesta en escena, realzada también con una canción especialmente compuesta para la ocasión por Polito Ibáñez.

Cuban Theater Runaway Slave

Based on novel “Biografia de un Cimarron” (Biography of Runaway Slave), by outstanding writer Miguel Barnet, Mimo Teatro group and Cuban Folkloric Company JJ will present piece “Por Cimarron” at Havana’s Mella Theater, November 18-21.

This mimodrama is new version of the first staging of “El Cimarrón” (Runaway Slave), by the Cuban Pantomime Theater, then directed by Olga Flora and Ramon. That premiere took place in 1978, on a natural stage in areas of Lenin Park, located on the outskirts of the Cuban capital. Now, “Por Cimarrón” suggests a deeper look of the complex process of “cimarronaje” (running away) and includes more presence of African-origin music and dances.

Actor-dancers and the drums of the musicians of the JJ Company will be in charge of this new staging that intermingles Afro-Cuban folklore with pantomime to take to Cuban stage the moving story of Esteban Montejo, the famous runaway slave who inspired Barnet’s work. Once again, the adaptation and direction of the piece came from Ramon Diaz, who took over the same responsibility thirty years ago, with the first version.

Testimonial novel “Biografía de una Cimarrón” by Miguel Barnet, published in 1966 occupies a relevant place in the history of Cuban and Hispanic American literature because of the novel way in which the author recounted the life of Esteban Montejo, a 19th-century runaway slave who told Barnet his story aged 100. The book has received several international recognitions and had its scenic version with opera “El Cimarrón”, by Hans Werner Henze, presented in several cities of the world. Later, in Cuba, it was adapted to mimodrama theater with music by Juan Jose Suarez and premiered at Lenin Park in 1978.

This new version, split into two parts, tells the meeting of a group of youngsters to get to know and render tribute to a veteran. It narrates the misfortunes of social justice from the concept of a fugitive slave, and then called ‘cimarron’ (runaway).

“Por Cimarrón” features the choreography from Johanes Garcia, who participated in the first staging more than thirty years, and will also play veteran Esteban Montejo. It includes song “Por Cimarron”, especially composed for the piece by Polito Ibañez.

A classic in Cuban literature, “Biografia de un Cimarron” by outstanding Cuban writer Miguel Barnet, will be staged again in a new mimodrama version: “Por Cimarron”. After more than three decades of its premiere, this thought-provoking staging enhances Afro-Cuban music and man’s gestuality.
